Sketchbook Journey: Cyberpunk Cat & Coffee

Sometimes the best ideas start without much of a plan.

I sat down to sketch, started throwing around shapes and ideas, and somewhere along the way I ended up with a cyberpunk cat drinking coffee.

Honestly, that works for me.

This sketch started as another exercise in exploring ideas and pulling inspiration from all over. I wanted to keep things loose and let the drawing develop naturally instead of deciding exactly what it needed to become before I started.

The result is this strange little character — a heavily geared-up cat with oversized goggles, cyberpunk equipment, and a cup of coffee in hand.

There’s something about the combination that I really like.

The goggles and mechanical details give the character that futuristic cyberpunk feeling, while the coffee and slightly serious expression make the whole thing feel strangely relatable. It has a lot of personality despite still being a rough sketch.

And that's really the point of these sketchbook sessions.

Not every drawing needs to begin with a finished T-shirt design in mind. Sometimes I just want to explore an idea, see where the lines take me, and figure out afterward whether there's something worth developing further.

This one definitely has potential.

There are already areas I could push further — the clothing, mechanical pieces, goggles, silhouette, and even the coffee idea itself. Maybe it eventually becomes a finished illustration. Maybe it turns into a graphic T-shirt. Or maybe it simply stays as one of those weird sketches that leads to another idea later.

We'll see where it goes.

For now, I'm enjoying the process of continuing to draw, experiment, and find inspiration wherever I can. Sometimes that means skulls, monsters, psychedelic artwork, or cyberpunk characters.

And apparently sometimes it means a cyberpunk cat that really needs its coffee.
